So this is the Soundcore Motion 300 and the Soundcore Motion X600… these are some of Soundcore’s newer speakers and one is really good for out door use and the other is really good for at home use. So lets see which one is right for you.
Regarding pricing, both of these speakers do undercut their direct competitors, the Soundcore Motion X600 has a retail price of $200 but it likes to go on sale for $180 and the Motion 300 has a retail price of $80 and I expect it to go on sale from time to time as well. Overall both of these speakers give you a lot of value for their price, so if you want to pick either of these two speakers up they’ll be linked down below.
Now first lets talk about the design of these speakers. Now both of these speakers are portable, and they are both water proof… so you can use them at home or take them on the go with you without any problems. Now obviously the X600 is much larger than the Motion 300… but it is still portable in this has a very nice built in carrying handle. But personally I wouldn’t like to travel too much with this speaker cause I would hate to scratch its very elegant metal body… but that’s just my preference. Now the Motion 300 also has a metal front grill, but the rest of its body is covered in silicon. Now this speaker is also much smaller than the X600 so taking it on the go with you is much more convent. But also, with the 300 you can either use it while its standing up right, you can also use it while its laying down flat and get omni directional sound out of it, and you can also attach it to things thanks to its built in loop that you can also clasp it to things. So overall, both of these speakers are portable and durable and you can defneitly take both of these speakers on the go with you… but personally I would mainly use the X600 at home or around the house cause I would hate to scratch its metal body… but with the 300, this one is smaller, lighter, its has silicon and you can attach it to things as well.
Now when it comes to battery life, these speakers are basically the same… the Motion 300 has advertised battery life of 13 hours and the motion X600 has an advertised battery life of 12 hours. However real world use with both of these speakers playing at 80% volume they are both going to be good for about 8 hours of playback. Now I will say that the battery life on the Motion 300 is decent for its size and price… but personally I do wish that the battery life on the X600 was longer, at last 15 hours… 20 hours would have been amazing.
But when it comes to charging these speakers, they both charge via a USB C port, as they should. But also, the X600 is the only speaker here that has an audio jack, so you can use it with a wired connection. And this is actually a big deal, cause a lot of speakers in this price range are no longer coming included with an audio jack. So if you need to use a wired connection with your speaker, then the X600 has you covered.
Now regarding connectivity, both of these speakers can be connected to two devices at them same time so you and a friend can both be DJ and latency is not an issue for these speakers so you can use them to watch videos within your phone.
And when it comes to audio codecs, both of these speakers have support for SBC, AAC and LDAC, which is Sony’s own high res audio codec. Just keep in mind that if you want to use LDAC you do have to be an android user cause iPhone’s top out at AAC and if you do decide to use LDAC, then that is going to take an additional toll on the battery life.
But with all of that out of the way lets talk about sound. Now the motion 300 has dual frontward firing woofers and dual passive radiators that shoot out the front and out the back of this speaker. Where as the X600 has a much more extensive speaker set up. The X600 has dual frontward firing woofers, dual frontward firing tweeters an dual passive radiators in the center that shoot out the front and out the back… but what really makes the X600 stand out is that is also has an additional upward firing driver… so when you turn on the spatial audio feature on this speaker… this driver will power on and it really does make your music sound a lot more open. But now we’re going to jump into the soundtest, the motion 300 is playing at 87% volume with its bass up feature turned on and the X600 is playing at 75% volume withers bass up feature and spatial audio feature turned on as well.
Sound Test
Now first we need to address max volume performance on these speakers. The motion 300 is a 30 watt speaker. So its going to get decently loud, its going to have no problem filling a bedroom or bathroom with music and its gets decently loud for out door use. But the X600 is a 50 watt speaker… so this speaker is going to get significantly louder than the Motion 300 and its going to have more bass as well. So the X600 is going to be adequate for lets say a living room. Now sound quality wise, the 300 sounds decent with good instrument separation, good clarity and good bass. Peronsally i like to use this speaker with it bass up feature turned off, cause if you use it with its bass up feature turned off that is going to sound more balanced and more open… but its still going to have a decent amount of bass. But then there’s the X600. Now I do like to use this speaker with its bass up feature turned on, cause even with its bass up feature turned on it still sound balanced cause the mids and highs are still very prominent thanks to the dedicated tweeters. And thanks to those dedicated tweeters, the X600 also has really impressive instrument separation cause the woofers handles the mids and the tweeters handle the highs. But finally there’s the upwards firing driver… this additional driver truly does help this speaker sound much more open because its adding a vertical dimension to your music. So plainly said, yes, the Motion X600 sounds a lot better than the Motion 300 cause it gets louder, it has more bass, and since it has more drivers its has much better instrument separation and clarity.
But also, with both of these speakers, you can always go into their apps and you can adjust their EQ to your liking, so you can make them sound however you want. But the really interesting thing about the Motion 300 is that it will automatically change its EQ depending on the position that its in, either standing, laying flat or hanging. And this is something the X600 doesn’t do… and I don't know of any other speaker similar to the 300 that does this.
But finally lets talk about pairing these speakers with other speakers. Now with both of these speakers, if you have one other of the same speaker you can get them to wirelessly connect to one another and you can get them to play in left and right stereo mode. And if you have 2 speakers playing together than your music is going to sound louder and its going to sound more open.
However, you can not connect a motion 300 to a motion X600 and get them to play in stereo mode and you also can’t get them to play in sync. And personally I really do feel that this is unfortunate, because with other speakers brands out there like with JBL or Sony, you can pair your speakers together… regardless of size and get them to play in sync which is very useful if you want to cover a large area with music.
But with all of that being said, both the Soundcore Motion 300 and Soundcore Motion X600 give you a really big value for their respective categories. The Motion 300 is a portable and durable bluetooth speaker that’s great for out door use, but you can also use it home. Where as with the X600, you can also use this speaker outdoors… but personally I would mainly use it at home cause it would hate to gets its metal body scratched. But the motion X600 is truly a great at home speaker cause it has great instrument separation and it sound very open thanks to its impressive speaker set up and upwards firing driver.
